Maybe you are struggling with being able to keep it together, crying all the time and seemingly out of nowhere. Maybe you are irritable, just always on edge, where the smallest and stupidest of things just get to you. As a therapist online practicing in California and Arizona, I have treated countless people who struggle with depression and grief. Depression is something that affects more than 3 million people a year. As a marriage and family therapist I view things in a systematic way, I see depression as something that makes sense given the society we live in.
More and more people are diagnosed with depression each and every single year. Society at large needs to make some major shifts. In therapy with me, I am sensitive to the fact that there is so much outside of our control such as society, culture, and intergenerational trauma. However, with that same mindset, I want to work collaboratively with you to explore what you can control and to help you step out into a life that fills you with the peace that you have been searching for. If we want to change the world we need to first change ourselves.
When it comes to grief, I understand that grief is a terrible thing to experience and go through. Loss is something that is a universal experience, yet one of the most painful. Whether you have lost someone close or you feel like you have lost yourself. I know that grief is complicated and it does not always mean that someone has passed away. Maybe you have gone through a breakup or divorce, or maybe you have lost your career.
Being a Marriage and Family Therapist who is licensed in California and Arizona, I understand the systemic nature of how we live our lives. I see depression as symptoms of an unhealthy society. And I can see the importance of community when it comes to overcoming depression and grief.
Are you wondering if you have depression?
People I see every day in my therapy practice show the follow symptoms of depression:
low or depressed mood
poor sleep
fatigue
achy body
lack of pleasure
feelings of worthlessness
poor concentration or focus
feelings of shame and guilt
feeling like they are failing others
But this isn’t the case for everyone.
Depression is not always Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh. Some people might have what you might call “high-functioning” depression where they are able to have a job, have a relationship, have a life-but they feel like they are dying on the inside.
Suicidal thoughts are often under-talked about, but it needs to be talked about. As a therapist, I have treated many people who struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts. Often times those who struggle with suicide will share that they don’t want to kill themselves or end their life, they just want their life as it currently is to stop. They want a different life. A more peaceful life. A life that they are actively participating in and not zoning out or on autopilot. Let me help you get there, it is not easy and you do not have to do this on your own.
Healing is hard work! The therapy journey is something that takes time and my approach can help. I used evidence-based cognitive therapies such as:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Internal Family Systems Therapy
My style of therapy is down to earth coming from another human who absolutely does not claim to have it all figured out. I openly share that I have lived experience, I am a first gen Latinx, I am in a interracial marriage, and actively continue to do my own work so that I can be a better therapist for my clients. I am a trauma-informed, certified dialectical behavioral therapist who treats people all over California and Arizona 100% online. I have years of trauma-informed therapy care experience and advanced training in trauma therapy.
